Cowal Accommodation

[ Click here for accommodation in Argyll - Loch Lomond Accommodation - Guide to Kintyre - Isle of Bute]

The Cowal peninsula nestles between the Firth of Clyde and Loch Fyne. It is easily accessible from Glasgow either for a day trip or longer. Dunoon is the main town with visitor attractions such as the Castle House Museum and visits by the paddle steamer Waverley. Just to the north of Dunoon is Benmore Botanic Garden.

Dunoon ferry
Transport

A regular train service operates between Gourock and Glasgow. From Gourock you can get the ferry which plies back and forth to Dunoon on the Cowal Peninsula. You have a choice of Caledonian Macbrayne or Western Ferries on this route. The CalMac ferry terminal is adjacent to the train station. The Western Ferries terminal is slightly further on - at McInroy's Point. No vehicle reservations are required on either ferry.

The Kyles of Bute viewpoint offers scenic views over the straits between Cowal and the isle of Bute. A 5-minute ferry crossing takes you from Colintraive (Cowal) to Rhubodach near the northern tip of Bute.

Kyles of Bute
Tighnabruaich, Cowal

The winding road through the forests of Glendaruel takes you to Tighnabruaich which is one of the most popular and scenic villages in Cowal, with numerous amenities for the many yachts. Driving further you can reach the Calmac ferry at Portavadie which plies across Loch Fyne to Tarbert on the Kintyre peninsula.
