Built in 1862 by the Earl of Dunmore as the lodge for the North Harris Estate.
Owned at various times by Lord Leverhulme and also airplane maker Thomas Sopwith.
Once operated as a 5 star guest house, but no longer offering accommodation. Not open to the public.
The castle has 8 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms and 3 reception rooms.
It is located by Loch Seaforth about 10 miles north of Tarbert on the main Tarbert to Stornoway road. Just north of Ardvourlie you pass through Bowglas. The river there marks the boundary between Harris and Lewis. If you look up Loch Seaforth, you will see Seaforth Island which is half in Harris and half in Lewis. Sometimes dolphins can be seen in this sea loch.
